Describing someone as average-looking is not often seen as a compliment.

But most of us would be pretty happy to look like a computer-generated representation of the 'average' Indian woman, Somalian woman, or even the average Ethiopians. Photographs of more than hundred women of forty one different nationalities and ethnicities were taken in cities all over the world in an attempt to discover common regional facial appearance.

The scientists cautiously laid photographs over each-other using a computer program to create an individual image for each area - and the biggest surprise is that the 'common' faces are all quite beautiful.
